Japan tops medal table at karate championships

In karate, a strong final day at the world championships propelled Japan to the top of the medal table.

Victories for Ryo Kiyuna and Kiyou Shimzu in the male and female kata events ensured that Japan finished with three gold medals, two silver, and six bronze after five days of competition in the German city of Bremen.

It edged them ahead of Egypt, wicho picked up three golds, two silvers, and a bronze.

France finished third in the medal table with two golds, three silvers, and three bronzes.
