San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez said foreign players in collegiate leagues can benefit the game as long as it is not abused.

Fernandez reacted to the proposal of Pacman Party list Rep. Mike Romero who wants schools to stop getting so-called imports because it is detrimental to the growth of the local game.

"Important 'yung development ng players, it also prepares the collegiate players for future basketball jobs. Mate-train rin kung may kalaban kang foreign players," he said on "Gametime," where Fernandez pointed out that the NCAA will put a stop to the practice next season.

He said that as long as it is limited to just one import per team, the use of foreign players in collegiate leagues should help locals. -- Gametime, ANC, Oct. 1, 2019
