The plight of migrant workers was tackled in the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.

Participants in the conference discussed key issues with respect to gender equality such as inclusive development, freedom from violence, stigma, cyberbullying and climate change.

But the key issue was on migrant workers, with civil society organizations stressing protection should be extended to those who do not go through regular channels.

Rhodora Bucoy of the Philippine delegation, who was elected to lead the review of a United Nations resolution advancing women's rights, was in a closed-door meeting discussing the document with other delegations.

After receiving inputs, Bucoy and other officials have started working on the resolution paragraph by paragraph.

Observers said they expect to see the document by Friday.
