MANILA -- A proposed law that will allow extraditions from Hong Kong to China will have consequences for expatriate workers and visitors to the special administrative region, a Filipino working on the island said Friday.

Ahead of another large rally on Sunday, "it's a little bit quiet" in Hong Kong after violent clashes earlier this week, said Miguel Capistrano, an English teacher.

"The last thing we want is for Hong Kong to turn into China wherein people are coerced and tortured and forced to give confessions to crimes they did not do," Capistrano told ANC's Market Edge.

If the law passes, authorities "can easily pick you up" regardless of whether a person is living, working, or just visiting the island, he said.
