The Filipino manager of a refugee center in Hong Kong said the city's proposed extradition treaty with mainland China poses a risk to refugees and asylum seekers.

Jonnet Kudera said if the bill becomes law, it can be misused by Chinese allies to extradite political refugees.

"As it is, refugees in Hong Kong don't have rights and a lot of them are political refugees, and I really worry what's gonna happen to them should this bill pass," Kudera said in an interview with ANC.

The situation remained tense in Hong Kong on Thursday as protesters remained on the streets to oppose a planned extradition law with China.
