North Korea's threats meant to force talks with US: analyst

An analyst doubts war in the Korean peninsula is imminent, and believes instead that North Korea's show of military might is meant to force the United States back to the negotiating table.

Sean King of the US-based Park Strategies also doesn't believe China, known to be North Korea's ally, has enough of an incentive to push the agenda of either Pyongyang or Washington.

But with North Korea's nuclear and missile tests, threats to sink an American aircraft carrier, and its continued detention of Americans, King agrees that sanctions against the country is the next logical step.
