Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa called non-believers of the war on drugs "hypocrites."

In a press briefing on Monday, Dela Rosa said Filipinos who claim that they do not benefit from the government's campaign against illegal drugs are hypocrites.

"They are hypocrites. Ipokrito sila kung sabihin nilang di sila nakikinabang," he said.

"Being a Filipino, being a resident of the community where they are living in, they are hypocrites kung sabihin nilang kami nag-ingay dahil we feel unsafe sa aming kapaligiran."

He added that maybe those who feel unsafe with the government's war on drugs probably feel this way because they are involved in the illegal drug trade.

The government has been criticized repeatedly over its bloody war on drugs.

As of December 13, a total of 2,695 drug fatalities have been recorded since May 10, data from the ABS-CBN Research and Investigative Group showed.

Of this number, 999 were killed by unidentified assailants while 1,508 died in police operations.
