The fourth highest official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday he would consult its leadership about a suggestion to also immediately sack from their posts commanders who would fail to curb crimes by motorcycle-riding assailants, under a "one-strike policy."

On Monday, PNP Deputy Chief for Operations Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan was quoted as saying the PNP will immediately remove police commanders from their posts if a rebel attack or a case of indiscriminate firing occurs in their areas of jurisdiction during the Christmas and New Year revelries.

"Magandang suggestion iyan," said PNP Chief of the Directorial Staff Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar. "Iyan po ay aking idudulog sa pamunuan ng PNP... para iyan ay mapag-aralan at ma-implement kung kinakailangan."

(That's a good suggestion. I will raise that to the PNP leadership so it can be studied and implemented, if needed.)
