A Chinese woman abducted by van-riding men from Makati's financial district was a "good" employee of a gambling hub, police said Wednesday, as the investigation focused on her partner and his friend.

The victim Zhou Mei had no debt from or any offense against the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator where she is a manager entrusted with financial matters, according to her employers, said Makati police investigation chief Maj. Gideon Ines.

"Instead, sinasabi nitong pinaka-boss nila, she's a good employee. Doon tayo nagkaroon ng lead na maaaring iyong lalaki, iyong asawa niya ay person of interest," he told radio DZMM.

(Instead, her boss said she's a good employee. That's when we got a lead that maybe her partner is a person of interest.)

The names of the victim's partner Chen Tangbin and his friend Zhu Jianwei appear in the deed of sale for a Honda Accord worth P1 million that was recovered at the crime scene, said Ines.

Chen, who is unemployed, also gave police inconsistent statements about his whereabouts during the abduction, the police official said.

"Marami po tayong pagdududa dito sa asawa saka iyong kaibigan nitong asawa," he said.

"Ang makakapagbigay-linaw lamang po kung nasaan itong biktima ay iyong asawa niya po," he added.

(We have many doubts about the husband and his friend. Only the husband can shed light on the whereabouts of the victim.)

Police hope to find the victim using the barcode on a part of the van that broke off during the abduction.
