Salceda asked: Is Duterte admin authoritarian or authoritative?
MANILA – Authoritarian or authoritative?
A lawmaker on Tuesday had to make a distinction after he put himself on the spot when he likened the Duterte administration to authoritarian regimes in stressing the case of the allegedly exorbitant cauldron for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
“Authoritarian, authoritative…decisive is a better word,” said Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda on ANC’s Headstart.
Salceda was giving his views on the P45-million cauldron that would be used for the 30th SEA Games, which starts at the end of the month.
"Mukhang resonable naman kaso Imeldific yung dating, may grandiosity,” he said. “Well, authoritarian regimes are always, you know...because you need to symbolize…"
But Salceda was cut short by ANC's Headstart host Karen Davila who asked him if he thinks this administration is an authoritarian regime.
"No. In consequence, yes, but not in character. Katulad naming mga congressman, boto lang kami nang boto kay pangulo dahil sa takot namin o ganun," he said.
He added: "It's a strong government kaya the next government is likely to be weak.”
However, the lawmaker believes that an authoritarian regime may not at all be that bad.
"No, s'yempre lagyan mo ng benevolent like Singapore," he said.
