Designing a traditional Filipino barong for world leaders attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit is no easy task.

But local fashion designer Albert Andrada is nothing short of proud of his designs which were worn by ASEAN leaders on Sunday night.

Speaking to ANC on Monday, Andrada, one of 3 local designers tapped to design barongs for the leaders, said he made sure his designs reflected the personality each world leader.

"My team and I did some researching regarding the character and personalities of the presidents and we came up with different characters of the Filipinos, so that's how we made the barongs," he said.

Andrada added that he limited his designs to the traditional barong look and avoided "modern touches."

"I really came up with a design which would fit each and everyone's personality," he said.

World leaders led by President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday night were treated to a feast to celebrate the golden anniversary of the founding of the ASEAN.

Andrada said Duterte wore a barong with an unbuttoned collar while Canada's Justin Trudeau was glad that he didn't have to wear an undershirt for his barong. United States President Donald Trump meanwhile got his barong a month before the summit.

The barongs worn by the leaders were made of piña cocoon and featured hand-made embroidery and buttons that show the ASEAN logo.
