The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) has asked the Supreme Court to review the alleged downgrading of charges against former President Benigno Aquino III in connection with the 2015 Mamasapano massacre that killed 44 elite cops.

The Office of the Ombudsman on Wednesday filed graft and usurpation of authority charges against Aquino, but earlier dismissed other charges against him, which included reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide.

The VACC earlier this week filed a petition for the writ of certiorari before the SC to look into the Ombudsman's decision, said VACC founding chairman Dante Jimenez.

Jimenez insisted that Aquino should be held liable for homicide as his alleged negligence led to the Mamasapano carmage.

"Apatnapu't apat ang patay dito... Ano'ng nangyari, bakit ganito lang [ang kaso]? Ang hinala ko, ito po iwa-whitewash, iko-cover up talaga ito ni [Ombudsman Conchita Carpio] Morales," Jimenez told DZMM.

"She is still protecting the former president from all these charges.
insisting that Aquino’s negligence led to the death of the elite cops," he added.

The Ombudsman had dismissed homicide charges against the former President because of lack of probable cause.

Jimenez said VACC will hold a prayer vigil at the high court with the families of the slain policemen.

VACC, he added, will use the SC petition as another basis for their looming impeachment complaint against Morales.
