Environmental planners urge gov't: Clear West Valley Fault zone

Amid the quake destruction in Mindanao, the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners is calling for more political will in ensuring the country's disaster-preparedness. As urban planning expert Edgardo Sabado points out, local government capacity to respond in times of disaster may not exactly match the population density that it needs to secure. There is also a need to clear the zones along the length of the West Valley Fault, the fault system which scientists say could trigger "The Big One" destruction in Metro Manila.
