The start of the northeast monsoon or amihan season may be declared in the coming week, signalling the onset of colder weather associated with Christmas, state weather bureau PAGASA said Sunday.

A high pressure area has formed in China and will soon bring cold and dry air to the Philippines and other areas, ushering in the amihan season, PAGASA weather special Aldczar Aurelio told radio DZMM.

In the meantime, PAGASA has not monitored any potential storm that may enter the country in the next days, he said.

Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Bicol, Calabarzon, Cagayan Valley and Cordillera regions, however, may experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms on Sunday.
