The head of the Philippine National Police promised Monday to help Vice President Rodredo seek the country's highest office in 2022 if she lends support to the policies of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Robredo, in a video message to the United Nations in March, criticized alleged human rights abuses under Duterte's war on drugs. Last September, she called for a stop to the killings in the anti-drug campaign after the deaths of several teenagers at the hands of police.

Some of Robredo's allies meanwhile have joined cause-oriented group Tindig Pilipinas, urging Duterte to rethink the anti-drug drive.

"Sana tulungan n'ya (Robredo) ang Presidente," Dela Rosa told reporters at Kamuning Bakery in Quezon City.

"She will have her time. Pagkatapos nito [ng Duterte administration], kung gusto niyang maging presidente, suportahan natin siya basta patapusin muna itong buong administration ni President Duterte para naman matapos ang plano ni Presidente," he added.

(I hope she would help the President. She will have her time. After the Duterte administration, if she wants to be president, we will support her as long as President Duterte is left free to finish his term and accomplish his plans.)

Dela Rosa and Robredo were guests of honor at Kamuning Bakery's celebration of World Bread Day.

Robredo already left the event when Dela Rosa gave his interview.
