MBC reports alleged looting after Star City blaze
MANILA - At least 2 employees of the Manila Broadcasting Company have lost valuables in an alleged case of looting following a fire at the Star City amusement park, which spread to the facilities of the radio and television network.
MBC Vice President Deo Macalma said he found 2 drawers open in his office, with his valuables gone, while another employee lost P60,000 cash that was supposed to be used to buy equipment.
(It's impossible for outsiders to come in because we gave an instruction, we trust our security guards. No one got in, even us employees can't get in. Firefighters are the only ones allowed.)
Macalma said they have reported the incident to Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) chief Fire Director Leonard Bañago, who told them to file charges before the police to ensure an impartial investigation.
Bañago said the bureau will investigate the incident.
(We will also investigate. We cannot help sometimes there are those who get in who are not members of the BFP, which was why I said it would be good for the police to also investigate.)
(We cannot say if there were others who got in, this will be included in our investigation. The BFP was not the only one in that area during that time.)
Bañago said he cannot yet tell when the bureau would release the result of its investigation into the blaze.
(It would depend on the evidence we will gather, the statement of witnesses, and the cooperation of management. If there's good cooperation, the result of the investigation would be faster.)
Pasay City Fire Marshal Paul Pili earlier said pieces of evidence inside the gutted amusement park point to arson, but Macalma said they would rather wait for the official results of the investigation.
