The mother of slain teenager Carl Angelo Arnaiz said Monday that she sent her son P17,000 a day before he allegedly attempted to rob a taxi driver and was killed in a supposed shootout with law enforcers.

"[August] 16 ko po iyun pinadala. [August] 17, nag-usap kami na hindi pa niya nakuha tapos nangyari nga po iyun (pagkamatay ni Carl)," Eva Arnaiz, who had worked in the United Arab Emirates until recently, told a Senate investigation into her son's death.

The 19-year-old Arnaiz was killed in Caloocan hours after he left his home in Cainta, Rizal to eat midnight snacks with neighbor Reynaldo de Guzman, 14.

Police claimed they recovered marjuana and shabu from Arnaiz.

Tomas Bagcal, the driver whom Arnaiz allegedly robbed, however had said that Arnaiz's supposed gun battle with cops was "scripted."

De Guzman's fate remains unclear. His parents have buried a body they claimed as their son's despite a DNA test saying otherwise.

Arnaiz was a student at the University of the Philippines-Diliman until he dropped out due to depression. He had managed a tiny sari-sari store to help his family's expenses.
