A transport strike on Monday prompted Manila to suspend classes, but only in the college level.

Many college students in Manila are residents of other areas and need to take public transport, while students in the lower levels live "within the vicinity" of their schools, noted Mayor Isko Moreno.

(We don't want to keep on cancelling classes because we already had 8 suspensions since July 1. The education of the children might be affected.)

Several jeepney groups nationwide refused to ply the roads on Monday to contest President Rodrigo Duterte's order to modernize their units by mid-2020.

The protest prompted the cancellation of classes in dozens of areas.
