A low pressure area crept closer to the Philippines on Tuesday, as 2 other weather systems threatened to bring rains over vast swaths of the country, the state weather bureau said.

The LPA was 1,180 kilometers east of Visayas at 4 a.m. and may enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday, PAGASA weather specialist Meno Mendoza said in a Facebook video.

It was not showing signs that it would intensify into a storm, said PAGASA forecaster Benny Estareja.

Batanes and Babuyan islands on Tuesday would experience cloudy skies with rains due to the northeasterly windflow, which is among indicators of the possible October onset of the amihan, the cold and dry winds usually associated with the Christmas season, Estareja told radio DZMM.
Localized thunderstorms may hit Metro Manila and the rest of the country on Tuesday afternoon or evening, he added.
