MANILA (UPDATE)—He had been bugged by a fly and a cockroach in public events.

On Thursday, it was a gecko's (tuko) turn to cut in on President Rodrigo Duterte's speech.

He was in Capiz leading the decommissioning of firearms and former communist rebel forces.

As Duterte got to the part of his talk in which he criticized human-rights advocates, he paused and turned toward the direction of the lizard clicking, drawing laughs from the crowd.

"Linti nga taga-Bacolod ni. Gadala-dala ka ng tuko dito?" he said.

(Damn you from Bacolod. Did you bring your gecko?)

"Diay Ilongga dinhi? Ara mo nga pet mong tuko, dala-dala mo?" he added.

(Is there an Ilongga here? Did you bring your pet here?)
