Fr. Chito Soganub on Monday asked the public to pray for his recovery following his release after months of captivity by extremists in Marawi City.

"Sa lahat, salamat at saka I pray for you, God bless you all. Pray for me, for trauma healing recovery. Thank you very much, God bless you all," he said after gesturing a sign of the cross.

Asked how he is, Soganub said he is "physically strong, handsome."

Soganub, the vicar general of Marawi territorial prelature, was abducted by Maute terrorists along with other civilians while at the compound of the Cathedral of St. Mary at the start of the Marawi siege.

The priest and another civilian were rescued after government troops recovered the Bato mosque in Marawi City.

In a press conference after Soganub's presentation, Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo Año said they have yet to conduct custodial debriefing on the rescued priest.

"Second part na lang yung pagkatapos ng sigurado nang normal siya, nakakalakad at walang sakit," he said.

Año said they also cannot yet categorically say whether or not Soganub is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome as this would need the doctor's examination.
