AFP allays espionage fears over deal with China-backed telco firm

The Armed Forces of the Philippines allays espionage fears over its deal with a Chinese-backed telecommunications player.

AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Edgar Arevalo says the deal will still be scrutinized by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

The military earlier signed a deal with DITO Telecommunity Corp. to allow the Chinese-linked firm to put its system, towers, and facilities within military bases in the country.
