President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday said he would leave it up to the Supreme Court to decide whether his proclamation voiding the amnesty granted his fiercest critic, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, is valid.

"Let the court decide on it whether he should return to jail because that's where he came from," Duterte said.

"Now if the Supreme Court says my proclamation is invalid, let it fall," he added.

Duterte, in a proclamation dated Aug. 31, nullified Trillanes' amnesty for his supposed failure to comply with requirements, including admission of guilt.

This revived cases filed against him for leading uprisings as a Navy lieutenant in 2003 and 2007.

Trillanes has asked the top court to block Duterte's withdrawal of his amnesty. The lawmaker has been holed up in his Senate office since Tuesday amid reports of his possible arrest.
