MANILA - Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Monday said it cannot yet be concluded that National Food Authority administrator Jason Aquino has been spared from facing the ax.

"I don’t know if he has been spared, that’s your words,” he told anchor Karen Davila of ANC’s Headstart.

"I think it’s premature for anyone to say that people have been spared. Maybe there’s forthcoming action," he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte has recognized that practices in the agency "contributed to our problems of inflation" and he "agrees that there is a need to reform the role of NFA and perhaps to revisit who should lead the NFA," said Roque.

There has yet to be any changes, he said, and his lips are sealed until there are actual papers.

In April, Aquino and the NFA Council, the inter-agency policy-making body of the agency, were at odds over the importation of 250,000 metric tons of rice to address a shortage in grain buffer stocks.

Duterte ordered Aquino then to ignore the council and proceed with rice importation amid the dwindling supply of government-subsidized grain.
