President Rodrigo Duterte may visit areas submerged by monsoon rains over the weekend, Malacañang said Monday.

The President was closely monitoring the situation from Davao City when torrential rains inundated vast swaths of Luzon, his top aide Christopher "Bong" Go said Sunday.

"As to exactly where he will go, he will just be there for safety reasons. I think he will go to the areas most affected by the floodings and that will be today," Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque told reporters Monday.

Duterte may have to cancel private meetings scheduled Monday, he added.

Social media was abuzz about the President's whereabouts during the flood that displaced thousands of families. The topic #NasaanAngPangulo trended on microblogging site Twitter.

Go said the President wanted to conduct an aerial survey on the extent of floods, but it did not push through because of the poor weather.
