The wife of Commission on Elections Chairman Andres Bautista on Tuesday said she went public with corruption allegations against the official in order to protect their children.

Speaking to ANC, Bautista's wife, Patricia, said the allegations that the Comelec chief could be involved in questionable activities could put their kids in danger.

"I want to make sure my kids...they have to know also the difference what’s right and wrong and corruption is wrong," she said.

Mrs. Bautista said she told their kids enough for them to process that "their father is not a bad person, but he made very bad choices that I am not willing to live with and I don't think they should live with as well."

"I don't do this because I want to badmouth [Andres]. People may not believe that, but it's up to them. I did this because I want to make sure my children are protected, that there is at least one parent that is not like the other one in case this is proven."

Patricia, who has 4 children with Bautista, earlier accused the Comelec chief of failing to disclose P1 billion in assets.

Bautista, she alleged, "might have had, or currently has, misdealing and corrupt practices while in government service."

Bautista denied the allegations, accusing his wife instead of attempting to extort money from him and having an affair.
