Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Wednesday told lawmakers that President Rodrigo Duterte has told him repeatedly to bring the cops involved in the killing of a mayor allegedly involved in drugs back in active service.

"The President always intimated to me whenever we talk, he said that ‘Kung pwede nang pagtrabahuhin yang mga tao na yan, kung wala nang nagba-bar sa’yo, pagtrabahuhin mo na ‘yan kasi sayang—sumusweldo yung mga tao nay an, pera ng gobyerno ang sweldo nila tapos wala silang ginagawa'," he told Senator Grace Poe in a congressional inquiry into the death of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa.

Supt. Marvin Marcos, formerly head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas, and 18 of his men have been reinstated after the Department of Justice downgraded the charges against them to homicide from murder.

Marcos was later named as the officer-in-charge for CIDG-Soccsksargen.

After Duterte's directives, Dela Rosa said he talked to the chief of the CIDG and was told that the post of being chief of the Soccsksargen regional unit will be vacated, and Marcos was eventually placed there.
