MANILA - House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez warned Wednesday that there will be a "hostile minority" if Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas takes over his position.

Speaking to ANC, Suarez said the camp of Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, who was ousted as House Speaker, now wants to field Fariñas as minority leader.

"This administration still has a luxury of time. If the the administration would like to have a cooperative and sympathetic Congress, you cannot afford a hostile minority," he said,

Suarez earlier bared that Fariñas' camp had formally asked to transition to the minority from the majority.

He said he also wrote a letter to Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to signify his intent to maintain his status as a member of the minority even though he voted for her.
