Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri on Monday seconded the nomination of Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel as Senate President.

Pimentel was nominated Senate President by Senator Vicente Sotto III.

Zubiri, who had clashed with Pimentel over a 2007 election fraud controversy, seconded the nomination.

"It is my honor and privilege to second the nomination of a fellow Mindanaoan leader who in the past, I've had the unfortunate experience of having as a bitter rival," Zubiri said

"But today, we leave all that bitterness behind us as a sign of unity, magnanimity and support for our people and for our fellow Mindanaoan President who has made history for our region."

Zubiri, who placed 12th in the 2007 senatorial elections, resigned in 2011 from his senatorial post after being dragged into a poll fraud controversy based on a protest filed by Pimentel, who ranked 13th in the 2007 polls.

Pimentel assumed the Senate presidency today, backed by the support of 20 colleagues.
