Four in 5 people cited "peace of mind" as their reason for availing of Manila's free coronavirus tests, Mayor Isko Moreno said Friday.

At Manila's drive-thru and walk-in testing centers, Manileños and non-residents are asked to fill up a contact-tracing form and choose why they want to get screened among 4 options, namely: exposure to a carrier, having COVID-19 symptoms, travel or work purposes, and peace of mind, he said.

"Eighty percent nung 4,000 mahigit [na tinest] sinabi peace of mind," said Moreno, as he urged fellow leaders to "listen to our people."

(Eighty percent of the more than 40,000 people tested said they wanted peace of mind.)

"Kailangang gumawa ng programa at polisiya. Pakalmahin natin iyong taumbayan. Bigyan natin sila ng kapanatagan that we are doing something," he told ANC.

(We need to make programs and policies. Let's calm the public. Let's give them peace that we are doing something.)

Leaders, he said, should also "set aside whatever political differences."

"This will not help in the hearts, minds of our people: listening to bickering... What the people need is action, movement, what we are going to do," said the mayor.
