A low pressure area off the country's east coast may intensify into a storm in the next 3 days, the weather bureau said Monday, following a rainy weekend in large swaths of Luzon.

Severe tropical storm Florita left the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday night. It was 825 northeast of extreme Northern Luzon at 3 a.m. Monday, said PAGASA.

The brewing storm, meanwhile, is expected to enter the country this week, said PAGASA meteorologist Aldczar Aurelio.

For now, the habagat or southwest monsoon will bring occasional heavy rains that may trigger floods and landslides in Zambales, Bataan, Palawan, Mindoro, Romblon and Western Visayas, said PAGASA.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience localized thunderstorms, the weather office added.
