The Philippines' efforts to trace those who came in contact with coronavirus patients will get a boost from additional manpower and US tech giants Apple and Google, Malacañang said Wednesday.

The government plans to hire at least 50,000 contact tracers this month, said Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque.

The Philippines has also joined Apple and Google's coronavirus contact tracing platform through which someone exposed to a person who tests positive for COVID-19 would receive an alert on their phone, he said.
