Doctors who volunteered to serve in rural areas in the Western and Central Visayas regions will be transferred to hospitals in Cebu City, which is currently with cases of the coronavirus disease, the health department said Monday despite opposition from the group.

Doctor to the Barrios Batches 36 and 37 criticized Sunday the assignment, describing it as an "abrupt exploitative order."

The health department is negotiating with the group, said Health Spokesperson and Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.

"Ito po ay ipinag-uutos ng ating Secretary of Health dahil nga po tayo ay may public health emergency at nakikita natin ang kakulangan ng health human resources, particularly doctors dito sa Cebu," said the official.

"Definitely po matutuloy ito," she told ABS-CBN's TeleRadyo.

(The Secretary of Health ordered this because we have a public health emergency and we see the shortage of health human resources, particularly doctors here in Cebu. This will push through.)
