President Rodrigo Duterte will not be making any changes to the unfiltered speech that has become a trademark of his first 365 days in Malacañang, his top communication aide said over the weekend.

"The people accepted the way he talks. The people voted for him, 16 million people," Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in an interview with radio DZMM.

"The President will continue to be who he is and his style will continue. No one in the Cabinet will stop him from being who he is. That is his own prerogative," he added.

Duterte has many times spewed expletives and extemporaneous speeches against drug dependents, corrupt officials, political rivals, and even foreign leaders critical of his policies.

Andanar said Duterte's style of speaking has won him the fascination of foreign media and the respect of his fellow leaders.

"It has really caught the attention of the international market, media. And now, our leader is being respected by other leaders," the official said.

"Iyung sinasabi ni Presidente na bakit niyo kami pinapakialaman, we are independent, we are an independent country -- the President actually stood for us."
