Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Wednesday said he has no information on whether or not exiled communist leader Jose Maria Sison will return to the Philippines in August.

Sison's homecoming was proposed by the government peace panel during backchannel negotiations in Utrecht, The Netherlands where he has been on self-exile since the late 1980s.

"Wala pa po kaming kumpirmasyon na ganyan bagama't ang paulit-ulit pong sinasabi ni Pangulong Duterte, dapat ang pag-uusap ay naririto sa Pilipinas," Roque told radio DZMM.

(We have no confirmation on that though President Duterte has repeatedly said that the talks should be held in the Philippines.)

Duterte had promised to shoulder Sison's security and accommodation if he returns to the country for the peace talks, noted Roque.

The President, a former student of Sison, has demanded a stop to the communist rebels' collection of "revolutionary taxes" for the peace negotiations to formally resume.
