MANILA - National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon said on Wednesday that government will publish the national security strategy that would address concerns including the sea dispute with China.

"For the first time, we are now publishing our national security strategy. May 16, pinirmahan na ng pangulo," Esperon said during the House of Representatives committee hearing on the West Philippine Sea.

Esperon brought a copy of the published document to the hearing but asked lawmakers to allow him to furnish the President first before handing out a copy to them.

He, however, did not give further details on the exact date of the document's release.

"We will also bolster our position in the community of nations by strengthening diplomatic relations with our traditional allies, engaging non-traditional partners and pursuing an independent foreign policy that gives primacy to our national interest," said Esperon, reading Duterte's message in the published document.

He said the national security strategy is in line with the administration's National Security Policy of 2017-2022.

Esperon said Duterte's message also vows to defend "our sovereignty and integrity of our national territory" and continue to develop and improve defense, intelligence and law enforcement capabilities to end communist insurgency, terrorism, and violent extremism. - ANC
