Some 300 point-to-point buses will be allowed to ferry passengers in Metro Manila on June 1, the first day of the general community quarantine or GCQ, a member of an inter-agency task force on the pandemic said Friday.

The buses will "supplement the MRT, LRT" that will limit the number of passengers per train to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, said Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.

"From 300, unti-unti ring magdadagdag ang DOTr hanggang papayagan na lahat ng buses," he told DZMM.

(From 300, the Department of Transportation will eventually add more until all buses are allowed.)

Aside from trains and buses, taxis, ride-hailing cars, shuttle services and bicycles will be allowed to operate a limited capacity from June 1 to 21, the first phase of public transport resumption, authorities said.

Tricycles will be allowed subject to the approval of local government units while provincial buses are still barred from entering Metro Manila, the Department of Transportation said.

For the second phase that will run from June 22 to June 30, public utility buses, modern jeepneys and UV express vans will be allowed to operate, the agency said.
