MANILA - The Philippine National Police has no personal relationship with Chinese equipment maker Huawei, its chief said Monday, downplaying concerns on espionage.

The United States has warned its allies on "risks" of using equipment supplied by the Shenzhen-based company. Huawei has repeatedly denied allegations that it was being used by Beijing for spying.

"Wala kaming nakita so far...So far wala naman critical na pinoprovide sa atin ang Huawei eh," PNP chief Oscar Albayalde said in a press briefing.

"We have no relationship except na sila ay nagpoprovide lang ng kung ano, except they participate in our bidding, that’s just about it. There’s nothing personal in the relationship of Huawei and the PNP, wala it’s all professional," Albayalde added.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, during his visit to the Philippines in March, also said the US would make sure that the world has its "eyes wide open" on the risks involved in using Huawei.

Google earlier suspended its business with Huawei following a US order to blacklist the Shenzhen-based firm.
