The Philippines and United States formally ended this year's Balikatan war games on Friday, hailing the exercise as a testament to their long-standing ties.

"The 34th iteration of this exercise is yet another demonstration of the great friendship and skilled cooperation between our two nations. We are committed to standing by each other shoulder to shoulder," said US Marines Brig. Gen. Thomas Weidley, who participated in Balikatan.

"With events such as this, the Philippines is now more ready and more capable to defeat enemies of the state carrying with us added learning and experience," Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Gen. Carlito Galvez said.

Over 8,000 Filipino and American soldiers joined the training along with participants from Australia and Japan.
