Kabayan Rep. Harry Roque on Monday voted to junk the impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte, filed by Magdalo Representative Gary Alejano, for being insufficient in form.

In his statement, Roque took issue with Alejano's statement that he is filing the impeachment complaint "on behalf of the people of the republic of the Philippines."

"We can all claim as members of the House that we are representatives of the people but I don't think the complainant int his case could allege in his verification that his filing it on behalf of the people of the Philippines not when in the last elections, the person being sought to be removed received 16 million votes constituting an overwhelming majority of the mandate of the people. So on this ground alone, I think this is a patent falsity. I believe it should be dismissed on the basis of form," he said.

"Let us not take this lightly. We are all representatives but I don't think anyone of us can claim to be like Jesus Christ and claim that he is the only representative of the people, which the verification contains."

Members of the House of Representatives justice committee are set to vote on the sufficiency in form of the impeachment complaint against Duterte. Alejano is accusing Duterte of culpably violating the Constitution, engaging in bribery, betraying public trust, committing graft and corruption, and other high crimes.
