Rainy days are coming, state weather bureau PAGASA said Sunday, marking the looming end of summer.

"Malapit na ang tag-ulan. Ang pinakamaagang simula ng tag-ulan ay itong last week of May," PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio told DZMM.

PAGASA declared the beginning of summer or dry season last April 10.

This year's summer would be shorter compared to previous years due to a "weak" La Niña condition characterized by the unusually cool ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific, said Aurelio.

The weak La Niña, he said, is also responsible for the scattered rains that have dampened summer.

The Samar provinces on Sunday will experience scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, which may cause floods or landslides, said PAGASA.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, meanwhile, will experience localized thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening, the weather office said.
