MANILA - Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno donned pink when she returned to work after an indefinite leave to symbolize her "happy" state of mind, her lawyer said Thursday.

Sereno on Wednesday ended the indefinite leave she took on March 1, by showing up at the Supreme Court office in Padre Faura in a pink belted dress, waving to her supporters that camped outside the complex upon hearing the news of her return.

"That is to show her disposition, her state of mind that she is really happy to be doing what she was mandated to do under the Constitution, to go back as the chief justice of the people," lawyer and spokesperson Josa Deinla told ANC's Headstart.

Deinla said Sereno remains unfazed even days before her colleagues were reported to be deciding a petition seeking the invalidation of her appointment as top magistrate.

"She believes what she is going through is not just her fight. This is the fight of the people and she knows that the consequences of granting the quo warranto are rather far-reaching and grave. It will imperil not only the independence of the judiciary, but the integrity of our democratic institutions," she said.

The Supreme Court magistrates are set to hold a special en banc session on Friday morning, where they might tackle the quo warranto petition against Sereno.

Sereno will preside over the session but will inhibit herself from the discussion of the case.
