President Rodrigo Duterte revealed Tuesday that he undergoes blood testing almost every other day due to a smoking-related illness.

He showed a gathering in Pasay City of local and foreign health practitioners the part of his arm where a blood sample was taken.

"I'm 74 years old, I do not want to die of TB. I do not want to die of lung cancer. As a matter of fact, I acquired
Buerger's disease from smoking. That is why my doctor is here. She gets my blood. Was it... Ah see? Almost every other day," he said.

Philippine communist leader Jose Maria Sison, meanwhile, said Duterte's frequent blood tests support his claim that the chief executive has a serious ailment.

Sison claimed in a Facebook post that the President's illness is apparent from Duterte's own pronouncements and his facial discoloration.
He cited the 1987 Constitution which mandates the public disclosure of the president's state of health in case of a serious illness.

The President revealed his blood tests a day after skipping the Boao Economic Forum in Manila.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo claimed the president was 'overworked’ and 'not feeling well' that day.
