Some 136,000 people violated lockdown measures to contain the novel coronavirus, the Philippine National Police said Wednesday.

Seventy percent of the violators were given warnings and allowed to go home, while the rest faced charges or fines, said PNP Chief Gen. Archie Gamboa.

"But it seems hindi nadadala ang tao. That's why I gave instructions kahapon na wala na tayong pakiusap," he told DZMM. "Lahat arestuhin na, basta may violation."

(It seems that the public is not learning. That's why I gave instructions that we will no longer make requests. Everyone will be arrested, if they committed a violation.)

Authorities are preparing confinement areas for the violators who risk a maximum of 6 months in jail, said the official.
