MANILA - The Armed Forces of the Philippines has raised P16.95 million after soldiers cut a portion of their salaries to donate in the country's battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, its spokesman said Monday.

"Ito po ay ibibigay natin sa Office of Civil Defense upang sila ang gumamit ng halagang ito upang ibili ng medical equipment and supplies," AFP spokesperson Edgard Arevalo told radio DZMM.

The AFP has also set up 2 mobile kitchens which aim to serve hot meals to the public, according to Arevalo. The pilot program will begin in Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City on Monday, he said.

The village is located in the city's district that has the most coronavirus cases at 183.

As of Sunday, the Philippines has recorded 6,259 cases of COVID-19, with 572 recoveries and 409 deaths.
