The Philippine government's response to the novel coronavirus pandemic could last until September this year until scientists discover a vaccine, according to the chief implementer of the National Plan Against COVID-19.

"Frankly talaga, mukhang ang preparation natin dito hanggang ano siguro, September o December. Talagang nakikita natin katulad ng ginagawa ng Singapore, their preparation is 18 months until such time that vaccine is invented. We will create a new norm. Hangga't wala pang vaccine, we cannot live the same way of life right now," Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., chief implementer of the National Plan Against COVID-19, said in a radio DZMM .

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire has said physical distancing and other measures implemented to halt the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) will be considered the "new normal" once the lockdown is lifted.

All households in Luzon, home to half of the Philippines' 100-million population, are under quarantine until April 30 to stop the pandemic.
