The youth, which comprise about a third of the country's roughly 60 million voters, can "make or break" candidates and the elections, an activist said Sunday.

Under the candidacies of the late former senators Raul Roco and Miriam Defensor Santiago, the youth showed that they "are able to rally around particular candidates and they can make or break their candidacy and the elections," said Bea Orante of Dakila, a group of artists working for social transformation.

The youth employ "creative and innovative means" to amplify efforts on the ground, she said, rejecting assumptions that the sector is apathetic.

"You should vote for who aligns with your principles, with your vision for the future, with your concerns and your stances," Orante told youth voters.
