MANILA - God is in control during times of crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic, a pastor said on Holy Wednesday.

“The Lord is teaching all the people in the world that ‘I am in control, I call the shots, and when you’re on my side I will take care of you. Everything will be okay,’” said Jeff Eliscupidez, lead pastor of Victory Church in Fort Bonifacio.

Those who only come to the Lord with “self-centered longing and wishes” are “missing out,” Eliscupidez said.

“Si God dumating to let us know he is the king, he is in control, an omniscient, omnipotent God,” he said.

The pastor said that while people will experience trials, hardship, and longing, one cause for anxiety is a lack of trust in God.

“Everytime meron tayong anxiety if you really dig deeper, there’s a place where we mistrust God. Where we place our trust in someone or something na hindi si Lord," he said.

The celebration of Holy Week has shifted online as Luzon, home to about half of the country’s 100 million people, and other areas have placed quarantine measures to contain the pandemic.
