MANILA - The head of Joint Task Force Corona Virus Shield believes there are enough police personnel operating during the Luzon lockdown without the need for an augmenting force from Visayas and Mindanao.

Police Lt. Gen Guillermo Eleazar said there are 58,000 police officers currently deployed in Luzon and another 50,000 reserved for operations.

As of Tuesday, a total of 2 cops have died due to the novel coronavirus, 22 are infected, 2 have recovered while 299 are under investigation and 1,384 under monitoring.

"With the biosafety plan that [we have] right now, we are hoping and praying na hindi po sana dumami pa. Even though nagsasagawa na rin po ng iba pa pong mga interventions ang ating pamunuan para po maiwasan 'yan at ma-sustain po natin itong operation nating ginagawa," he said in a radio DZMM interview.

He added that protective equipment like face masks, gloves and other necessary operational needs are provided by the directorate for logistics of the police and the support of the national government.
