Travelers leaving the country this coming Holy Week should be at the airport 3 hours before their flights in anticipation of long lines, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said Tuesday.

Speaking to radio DZMM, MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal also advised passengers to pay travel taxes in advance and refrain from bringing bullets as amulets.

Authorities, he said, will also enforce tighter security check like asking passengers to remove their shoes in the final x-ray inspection before flights.

MIAA has also asked local and international carriers to strictly follow flight schedules to ease congestion at terminals, added Monreal.

"They made a commitment that they will try their very best to make sure that on-time performance of these flights ngayong peak season ay gagawin po nila," he said.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines on Sunday said it has launched Oplan Semana Santa 2018 amid an expected 8 percent increase in passenger influx during the Holy Week.

Las year, Philippine airports welcomed a total of 6,093,786 domestic and international passengers with 3,841,283 of these travelers arriving and departing through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, said the office.
